Matt Tomaszewski is a director, writer, and showrunner whose work spans continents, formats, and genres—but always comes back to one thing: telling bold, human stories with heart.

Originally trained as an environmental scientist, Matt’s life took a left turn toward the screen when the world of television collided with his parallel career as an ocean sailor. That intersection—between intellect and instinct, science and story—is where he thrives.

Based in Sydney and working internationally, Matt has directed major feature documentaries (Reefshot for Stan), global IMAX films (Shark Kingdoms 3DThe Coral Sea), headline content for Discovery’s Shark Week, and observational series like Ambulance Australia. As an EP and showrunner, he’s led popular factual and kids programs including Teenage Boss(ABC), John Eales Reveals (Discovery), and What Really Happens in Thailand (Seven). His first feature as co-writer, Caught Inside, premiered at SXSW and won multiple festival awards.

He’s as comfortable scripting voiceover in the edit suite as he is capturing vérité in remote jungles or wrangling underwater rigs. Widely respected for his calm in chaos, hands-on leadership, and ability to get the best from cast and crew alike, Matt is a rare hybrid of filmmaker: creatively driven, technically fluent, and deeply curious.
